dvisme · thoughts?

and i mean taking over. as in it controls us. the earth is merely a vehicle to propagate it until it's rightful future master's can come to claim it as an energy source. think about it. ancient civilizations consumed it, now its in all our food. high fructose corn syrup is taking over our minds and, via the diabetes and obesity epidemics, hosting on our bodies. not to mention its ethenol form, which is systematically expressing its desire to penetrate the auto market and take over our cars.

dvisme · i'm just saying. what if we're nothing more than keepers of the crop?

mct · I was just thinking this morning about how corn was probably one of my favorite foods as a kid.
Posted: 9-09-08 @ 03:01pm
dvisme · sarah, i have it sitting around but haven't gotten to it yet. thanks for the suggestion.

Posted: 9-09-08 @ 04:32pm

Average Betty · Though it is one of the most disturbing documentaries I've seen in awhile, I highly recommend "King Corn." http://www.kingcorn.net/

dvisme · Cool, thanks Average Betty, that looks interesting. And, obviously, very aptly named. Wish their site was functioning properly so I could check out the trailer.

Average Betty · Hmmm... bummer!  Cooking Up a Story did a three part interview with the film makers that she posted to YouTube.  Here is a link to part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eBJQ-bajns&feature=PlayList&p=2465AA5F538D4700&index=16  Warning: You may become a vegetarian!

dvisme · thanks for the link. this guy is spot on. there has a been a direct ratio between the increase in the amount of high fructuse corn syrup in our food products and the rise of the diabetes and obesity epidemics.

jessica · have you seen the commercial for high fructose corn syrup?
this guy says something like "you know what THEY say about it" and a girl says "what! it's CORN!" the end. haha. it's terrible.

dvisme · so jessica i went searching for that commercial and i found this! those two spots are SO FUNNY! HA!

i have no idea how to respond.

except to say that it makes perfect sense why condensed glucose would wreck havoc on glycemic index levels and jolt the hell out of your pancreas.

we're talking about a manufactured substance being delivered at concentration levels higher than what appears in nature. yes, it is natural, but without the dense plant fiber that regulates the absorption of gluocose in the body.

essentially, evolution hasn't yet had a chance to prepare us for these crack-pipe hits of corn candy.

this site is great btw.

after we get past the messaging on this page

we find out this site and the spots were paid for by the corn growers of america

some analysis of their sweeteners at a glance comparison shows us that honey is the only sweetener to provide antioxidents (besides agave nectar and maple syrup which aren't on the list)

the problem is most honey being sold in the us comes from china. most corn comes from the us.

but from china is bad. long transport bad for environment. and giving china money is bad. buy from america is good! closer transport! americans make money!

so the most environmentally- and health-friendly choice is honey. the corn growers of america just don't want people to know that. because the choice is stingingly obvious. and we haven't even mentioned the biodiversity advantages of healthy bee populations vs. monoagriculture ramifications.

i'm suddenly no longer apathetic, but very pleased that jazz' mom has honey bees and is making her own honey.

that's pretty sweet.

sorry about the tone. i'm just feeling jaded.
