rockbirthedme · What food have you gone running out for at ridiculous hours of the night?  For me, it's Thai green curry or yom neur, both of which are great comfort/stress foods.

simon · chicken burritos from taco trucks, absolutely. also waffles and coffee.

mct · Rockbirthedme: What's yom neur?

Really, I'd sooner eat dry pasta or some other silly thing, than leave my house late at night for food. But I imagine I have run to the store late at night while sort of drunk, looking for snacks, so I will list those:

Sour Patch Kids, ice cream, pretzels, cashews, and maybe one of those disgusting discs of jerky they sell at the counters of 7-11, if my friends don't talk me out of it.

dan · I never eat in the middle of the night, and i am asleep by 11:30 about 99% of the time.  That being said, I do eat between 9 and 11:30, and typically it is some terribly fattening cake or cookie that the lover has made.

jessica · we used to go on late night pie runs. usually when we were trying to quit smoking. cherry pie is the best for quitting smoking. but maybe not that affective. but now, like dan says, we are too tired at night to go out for anything. we are old timey and have to get our rest!

rockbirthedme · mct, it's a Thai beef salad.  Thinly-sliced beef, lime juice, cilantro, and a few other things I've never been able to identify, possibly fish sauce? served on a bed of iceberg lettuce.  Sour, juicy, very tantalizing, and just the thing if you need a nice jolt of taste and protein.

But the truth is, I usually eat it much earlier in the evening; as dan and jessica say, I'm getting to be too old and staid to run out in the middle of the night.  Bedtime comes early these days.

Chas Wareing · being creative with on-hand ingredients is key - for example, rice cakes fried with a bit of sesame oil and honey and red pepper flakes;)  on the opposite side, there's peanut butter and tortilla chips;)  always wander around a store and see what grabs you - I, for example, am heating up some van camps beanie weenie that I picked up last night;)

Jenn · For late night food forays, it's usually Taco Bell. Traditional hard shell tacos. Maybe with sour cream. The REAL Mexican places close early in this town. Or Chinese food, usually General Chicken, if they're still open. It's tough living in a small town with few restaurants that usually close early. Mostly, though, I'm in bed by 10pm, so it doesn't bother me much.

lara · In college, it was always for breakfast burritos. The best spot in my college town served them from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m., so there was always a line out the door waiting for midnight to roll around.

Nowadays, if we go out for late food it's usually sushi, but that's mostly due to our local late-night options. If we're staying in (or just getting home), I still favor the whorehouse special.
