mct · Got a glass of Merlot here. It's only ok. I sort of wish I had some beer. Maybe something light and gold.

When you get home, what do you reach for? Cocktails? Scotch? Bartles & James?

dan · milk!

Robin · Depending on the time of year... winter/scotch, spring/vodka, summer/gin, fall/beer.  I may sound like an alcoholic but I don't reach for booze every night.  Like, not on the nights when I've had a hangover all day. ;)

Remy · I'm partial to Belgian beers and Amarula.

Sarah Lynn · BEER! :D Sierra Nevada Pale Ale...mmmm, I should head home from work soon.

forkable · A regular night calls for Canadian Mist.  Although cheap (which is hardly a deterrent in my book) it is surprisingly smooth for a low end whiskey and has a nice sweet flavor.  On a special night, I'll treat myself to a scotch.  Glenmorangie Cellar 13 is my favorite!

Aimee · My evening drink is also dictated by the time of year.

Winter/Cool Weather:

  • Beer: Newcastle

  • Cocktail: Mulled Cider with Whiskey

  • Non-alcoholic: Mulled Cider without Whiskey

Summer/Warm Weather:

  • Beer: Tecate w/Lime

  • Cocktail: Gin and Tonic w/Lots of Lime

  • Non-Alc: Arnold Palmer

lara · Oh, Amarula is so good.

Mostly, I drink whiskey and beer and wine. Sometimes when I want to be fancy, I make a Manhattan. When it's hot, maybe a G&T or spritzer. And I love an occasional pastis.

Right now, I'm having sparkling water. On the rocks. It's a toasty afternoon.

cory · I definitely reach for a beer when I get home.  I've been riding my bike from work and it's nice to relax with a cold one when I walk in the door.  It doesn't even have to be good beer.
Posted: 8-20-08 @ 11:15am
mct · I feel you on that. Now that I'm done with my wedding fasting, I am back on the suds.
Posted: 8-20-08 @ 12:06pm
bshaurette · I've taken to drinking a glass of wine before bed every night.  Being in SF, the season doesn't really impact my choices much.  :)  It's always something red - pinot, cab, syrah, whatever's local and has an interesting-looking label.

puja · i've been on a HUGE martini kick lately, they're delicious and the perfect after work drink for me.  at first they were pure vodka, but now i'm finding the right mix between vodka, olive juice (i like my martinis extra dirty) and aitty bitty sploosh of vermouth on the rocks...
Posted: 8-20-08 @ 02:08pm
mct · I will have one with you tonight!
Posted: 8-20-08 @ 02:09pm
Marta · Beer is a must have in my fridge, as well as wine - eithe red or white.
Otherwise i like gin and tonic/gin and lemon/vodka lemon a lot, because they're refreshing and you can decide the amount of alchool - i don't like to drink very alchoolic drinks before dinner.. save the alchool for later ;)

In Italy we have a very popular pre dinner cocktail called "Negroni" and it's made of

  • Gin 1 oz

  • Vermouth 1 oz

  • Bitter Campari 1 oz

you drink it on the rocks and it's quite nice, i have to say!

puja · mitch, i totally missed your post.  if i saw it i would have made you a killer martini.  guess you guys will have to come over and enjoy an evening cocktail with us soon.

lara · Ooh, I love Campari. Lately, we've been mixing it with fresh-squeezed Ruby Red grapefruit juice, and sometimes a little sparkling water. Super good.

mct · Marta: The Negroni is my brother's drink of choice (I think). There are a few bars and restaurants in Oakland that make great ones.

While I'm here I'll make an anti-recommendation: Just Say No to cheap Lambrusco in the wee hours. But I bet you have some really great stuff in Italy, Marta?
Posted: 8-25-08 @ 11:50am
Aimee · Oh, I have a bottle of Campari in my fridge and I cannot figure out what to do with it. It's too bitter for me to NOT cut it with something sweet or fruity (and I am a big Gin and Tonic fan). I don't think the Negroni would work wor me, but the grapefruit juice might...

ElAyEs · Reviving this thread. . . I don't drink very often, maybe one or two nights a week. But my #1 drink of choice is far and away Tanqueray Rangpur and gingerale. It is quite sweet but so, so good.
Aimee - You might want to try this gin if you have not already, it has a very strong lime taste.

If I don't feel like a sweet drink, I'll have a Newcastle or Sierra Nevada, or head out to a microbrewery for some lager or red ale.

Foodista Fan · I think I'd like a cold glass of Limoncello its perfect after a nice pasta dish.

Hawk · Some Cooper's Creek Reisling will work nicely with a stewed pork shoulder with mustard and apples tonight.  Then I'll crack a couple of Alpine Lager's (available only in Atlantic Canada) and watch some hockey.

ladycakes · I don't drink a whole lot, but lately I've enjoyed delicious Jubelale and Bulleit bourbon and gingerale with lime.
Posted: 10-12-08 @ 08:46am
cory · What's Jubelale?  I guess I can look that up on my own.

Puja:  I want to try one of your martinis sometime.
