Help and Tips
FoodProof is full of buttons that do cool stuff. Click around, and you'll get the hang pretty quickly. The links below cover some useful topics that can help get you started.
Quick Help Icons
You'll see small blue text here and there, like thisWhat's This?Help HelpClose [X]
Dialogs like this contain info about site functions that you might find helpful. Click the 'close' link in the corner to hide these kinds of messages., . Clicking this link will give you a bit of useful information about how to use a particular feature on the site.
The Relater
The Relater is a cool tool that lets you connect two or more pieces of content together.
Say you wrote a recipe and also posted a photo of the finished dish. And say you'd like to have your photo appear whenever someone views your recipe, and vice versa.
Go to your content, and click the Relate Things button in the right column. A mini-window will pop up, and you'll be able to browse or search for your related stuff. When you Save & Close, you should see your new relations show up right away!
You can even relate other people's stuff to your own. When you do, the person that owns the content you're relating yours to will be notified, and if they're into it, they can make the relationship "two-way"!
The Pantry
The Pantry is where all of our tags get rounded up. You may have used tags before: they're useful ways to categorize things, so that others can find them more easily using the power of semantics. Hi ho.
For example: You're posting a photo of Tandoori Chicken. Delicious. While you're giving the photo a title and a description and so on, you can also enter "Pantry Tags". Maybe you enter "tandoori," and "chicken," and "indian food," and "spicy." Great.
Now someone else comes along, and they want to see everything that can be done with chicken. So they check out the pantry entry for chicken and bang, it's all there. Everything that's been tagged "chicken" will show up in The Pantry, on the "chicken" page. Nice!
The Pantry has got more than just food, though. It keeps track of units of measurement, cooking techniques, and more! Get creative with it.
Watchlists
People are posting lots of stuff to FoodProof. It's easy to lose track of the things you want to read and see. Watchlists help you keep up with people and conversations.
Watching Forum Topics: Want to be notified whenever an interesting forum topic received new replies? Add that topic to your watchlist!
Watching Users: Want to be notified whenever your friend posts a photo, video, blog, or recipe? You can Watch that person by clicking their user icon, or visiting their profile.
Note: When you post a new piece of content, or start a forum topic, you are automatically set to "Watching" for new comments or replies. If you don't want to be notified of comments or replies, find the "Stop Watching" link on those pages.
Contacts
Contacts are people on FoodProof that you know, or would like to have quick access to. Adding someone as a contact is a "one-way" operation, which means that they'll be added to your list whether or not they decide to add you to theirs. Your contacts will show up in the right menu, so you can easily send them messages, see if they're online, and so on.
