Tonight, I made dinner
This happens with much less frequency than would be desirable. But tonight, I made a plan, and ran with it.
I stopped off at Piedmont Grocery on the way home from work (in Emeryville) and working out (at the crappy crappy Club One in Emeryville). I was pleased to find a spot that could accommodate my giant truck (for work).
The plan was to have either salmon or chicken for dinner, accompanied by some sort of veg. A loose plan, but a plan nonetheless. The salmon was pricey ($10.99/lb) but after about 5 minutes of debating, I got two hunks of it. After he printed out the receipt I realized that I'd gotten 1.3 lbs of fish for a two person dinner. Like I said, I don't cook dinner very often.

NOTE: During the aforementioned debating period re: the salmon's exorbitant pricing, I called william to see if he would sway me one way or another. I stood near the beef area of the butchery and dialed. As I put the phone to my ear, one of the butchers called over (while he was helping a different customer), "excuse me miss, but cell phones aren't allowed in this area." Shocked, I said, "seriously?" To which he said, "yeah." Still stunned, I hung up. He laughs and says "no, just kidding." I am annoyed. I could understand people in his line of work being frustrated with patrons' usage of cell phones for drawn out conversations while at the counter, but I don't even think he was trying to be passive aggressive, I think he was just trying to be funny. It wasn't funny.

At home, I cleaned up the kitchen and then got things ready. I made salmon in a miso glaze, brown rice (from the frozen packets that are sold at TJs) and boiled cabbage. The salmon was good, as usual, and william said it was perfectly done. The rice was normal, but was extra nice with some of the remaining miso glaze drizaled on top. The cabbage was a little bit bland, but with some salt, I liked it.
Overall, I rate it a success.

dan · when we lived closer to this piedmont store i used to love that place. that dinner sounds super tasty.
lara · Nice! I love the way you make salmon. Do they sell that miso dressing anywhere around here? Also, is the ultrapasteurized milk so that you can have it at work with cereal? If so, brilliant!
alice · Yes, apparently they sell that dressing at that little market on mountain blvd or something in Montclair. But if you don't mind surpassing the expiration date, we have a ton of bottles and would be happy to give you one.The ultra pasteurized milk is for having in the truck in Pittsburg so I can have raisin bran and milk for breakfast. I agree that this is the best plan ever.
