Saucing the Bun in the Oven

Drinking in PregnancyWe all know that bad things can happen to babies if their moms drink too much during pregnancy. We've also known that probably an occasional glass of wine is not "too much."

What we haven't known, though, is whether there's a light-drinking threshold below which a pregnant woman can imbibe safely.

This is why I was fascinated to read a (now not so recent) 2008 article in The Guardian about a major study on the topic. The researchers found that consuming one or two drinks a week doesn't hurt--and in some cases may actually help--a developing fetus.

If you know people having babies, jolly up their next several months! Send this info along!

jessica · yes! i couldn't believe how i was sneered at for merely saying i wouldn't mind a glass of wine. at the end of my pregnancy my dr. actually told me to drink a glass so i could get some rest in spite of random contractions.

rockbirthedme · As the article said at the end, the list of things pregnant women aren't supposed to eat gets longer and longer.  I'm waiting for the day when a pregnant woman is expected to exist on Cream of Wheat and the occasional green pea (but not too many).
