Pittsburgh classic: Primanti Bros.
Pittsburgh's own unique take on the art
form of sandwich-making – the Primanti Bros. They make their
sandwiches with the standard meat, cheese, and tomato, but also with
the more unusual cole slaw and French fries, all on big hunks of
Italian bread. I had a capicola sandwich with a fried egg on it and a
little hot sauce... I want another one right now. That was a damn
fine sandwich. The cured pork and egg were rich a just a little
spicy, the cole slaw cool and tangy, and the combination with the
fries and all was just fantastic.
Tom ordered the cheese steak sandwich,
advertised at their #2 best seller (after beer), and was not nearly
as enamored with the final product as me. He was expecting a more
Philly style steak and received something closer to meatloaf. I
can't say if it was just expectations or the flavor or what, I did
not try it, all I can say is that mine was great. Don't miss eating
here if you are around Pittsburgh. Then buy another sandwich and
send me one.

· That place is so awesome. Glad you guys made it there.
dan · wow, the coleslaw and fried egg combination sounds pretty amazing. was it a runny fried egg? like sunny side up? or over easy?
77 or 88 · I has hoping for runny, but it was more scrambled in a sheet. Still good, though.
dvisme · i went to pitt. we ate a lot of these. i would like one now.

rockbirthedme · That sounds delicious, but someone should tell Tom that you're taking your life in your hands to order a "cheese steak" anywhere but Philly. The darndest stuff gets served as "cheese steak," and if you're expecting a Philly cheese steak, you're bound to be disappointed. Shoot, where I live, they serve a "cheese steak" with spiced beef. Spiced beef!
One Sec...
