Cadbury Cream Egg Filled Chocolate Cupcakes

Posted by dan on 4-09-09 in dan's Blog with 10 Tiny
In the theme of Easter we thought it would be a fun experiment to make some chocolate cupcakes with a Cadbury Cream Egg center.  This was an experiment as we had never seen it done, nor did we have any experience making such a thing.  Below is our photo journal through the process.  (click the photos for full size)

Step One: Fill cupcake shells halfway with cupcake batter and place eggs in

Step Two:  Cover eggs with batter

Overall this was a fun experience.  The cupcakes are super good as you would expect, but didn't turn out exactly as we were expecting.  I was hoping the egg would somehow stay in the middle of the cupcake, instead they went to the bottom, which is what I should have expected.  Oh well ... happy Easter!

jessica · the photos turned out beautifully. i really wish i could eat one! it is a shame that it didn't retain a yolk affect in the center. i was really hoping for that.

bibliogrrl · the eggs might hold shape if you froze them first. Hmm.

gwen · I am still in a sugar coma.
Those were delicious.
The cupcakes themselves were especially good, so moist!!

Kathy Daume · Hrm...my aunt makes cakes, and when she puts heavy things like chocolate chips or nuts in, she coats them with flour first.  She says it prevents them from all sinking to the bottom.  Maybe that would work for this, too (though a cadbury egg is a lot heavier than some chocolate chips...).  Anyhow, this was a great idea!  They look yummy and gooey!

Remy · Good call on adding flour first. I forgot that works. Maybe a quick freeze and flouring would do the trick next time.

joeaveragejer2000 · excellent idea...try baking a small portion of batter first until "set"...then add the egg and cover with more batter and bake the rest of the way....? sounds do-able
